The Accent is a nice little car that drives surprisingly well. It already has the most powerful standard engine in its class (these things come with a 140 horsepower DI 1.6 liter 4-pot), but imagine what it could do with a version of the 1.6 turbo you can get in the Veloster (detuned to ~180 horsepower as not to step on the Veloster/Elantra’s toes), firmed up suspension, bigger brakes and a set of sticky tires. The Fiesta ST has no competition in the North American market. Hyundai should get on that.

Well this is pretty much happening! Kia Rio GT.

Then add in a new Veloster which will like have IRS. Won’t be mid-engined but should have the face.

Hyundai is planning to do a CX-3 and Juke competitor as well. Since the US apparently won’t be getting the i30/Elantra GT at all, I think this CUV is replacing that hatchback Elantra completely. Should have the 201 hp 1.6T but may also get the 240 hp 2.0T as an “N” variant since it is supposed to be sportier than the Kia Soul.

Agreed! The last-gen Accent has the GT/SE/SR version, depending what country and year you bought it (it had different trim names) with no engine mods, but some style mods, and things like sport-tuned suspension, 16 in. alloy wheels, and other sporting features, along with available performance parts such as a cold-air intake and suspension brace.

I thought it looked pretty nice - even without the hp bump, it was supposedly a fun little car:

Honda should put the 1.5 turbo from the Civic in the Fit. I would trade my FiST for that in a heartbeat.

Really like the look of these things. It should also be fun with that 2300 poundage and small dimensions.

I test drove one a few years ago, can vouch for the fun. It’s that simple, cheap car fun mixed with some smart chassis tuning.
